I’m not sure exactly when/where I first heard Jetty Bones—whether I sought it out or if it was accidental—but I have a strong suspicion it was due to the algorithm. YouTube should have been shoving her music down my ears, as she was a supporting act for many of the bands already in heavy rotation on my speakers. For instance, I’ve been championing Tiny Moving Parts since their 2013 debut. Dylan Mattheisen (TMP) dated Kelc Galluzzo (JB), & they collaborated on each other’s records. It’s highly probable this was my forgotten introduction. Or maybe my avenue was through Hot Mulligan. After discovering them in 2014, I was obsessed & binged every live performance. I distinctly remember their Toast and Jam studio sessions from 2017 & 2018; Tades & Chris were wearing JB merch. This would have surely piqued my interest.
What I do know is – (Hyphen) was the first EP I owned by JB. It’s a solid EP for when I’m in the right mood, but it’s not the kind of music I yearn for at the gym. It’s a desired bummer. My current appreciation for it is definitely colored by her earlier work, which I prefer.
What do you think?
