Some collectors are purists, never removing toys from their boxes or keeping vinyl sealed & displayed as wall candy. I fall into a different camp. I see no return on investment; instead, the monetary worth of my collection is based purely on the enjoyment it brings me. This means I’m going to open them, listen to them, & ultimately devalue them. Because of this, I often buy loose records with no packaging. For storage, I purchase discounted LPs solely for their gatefold casings, which is how I ended up with 2001: A Space Odyssey – Volume 2 for $1. I don’t know how it escaped it’s fate of cardboard repurposing. Maybe the opening track, Also sprach Zarathustra, felt too familiar to discard.
